Lucy hoping to win model competition
A CYNON Valley woman who bravely opened up about her experiences of being bullied could become the UK’s next plussize model.
Lucy Regler, who is from Aberdare, has been shortlisted to become the new face of plus-size brand Yours Clothing.
Lucy, who opened up about her experience of being picked on for things like being ginger, having a lisp and being overweight, said it would make her proud to win the nationwide competition.
She said: “I would love to win this competition as it’s always been a dream to wear the next big thing on my plus size body.
“Slowly the fashion for plus-size is getting amazing and I am proud to be one of the people who get to wear it.
“I’ve always been a person to show off my curves and where what I want, so please vote for me as I so want to continue my passion! I want to show that even if you’re plus-size you can look absolutely gorgeous!”
The competition was launched in September, and Lucy has reached the finals, being selected as one of just a handful from an initial 1,500 entrants, with more than 250,000 votes cast. It comes after Lucy, a trainee hairdresser and beauty therapist, spoke about her experiences earlier this year because she wanted to help others.
She said: “From a very young age I have been picked on for things such as being ginger, having a lisp and being fat.
“Kids can be cruel, but as I’ve grown older adults can be horrible too.
“I was always taunted in primary, but it got worse when I went in to comprehensive school.
“I had friends, but only a few that were my true friends. Ones that would stick up for me – when I was 13, I would not stick up for myself. I was petrified.”
