Choir return by popular demand

-

A CYNON Valley choir returned to a Shropshire town earlier this month due to popular demand.

The Cwmbach Male Choir sang at the medieval walled market town of Ludlow for the second time in 18 months on October 14.

A spokesman said the choir’s return was at the request of locals who had attended and enjoyed the previous concert. It was held in the main auditorium of the Ludlow Assembly Rooms, and was “well attended by an appreciative audience”.

The show was compered by the “legendary” secretary of the choir, Brian Williams, who included in his personal repertoire impressions of Tommy Cooper as well as anecdotes.

The choir, conducted by musical director Dr Mike Thomas and accompanied by the Jayne Thomas and Sheridan George, sang 16 songs including the Battle Hymn of the Republic, Tell My Father, The Way You Look Tonight along with Welsh favourites Arwelfa, Ar Hyd y Nos, Laudamus and Tydi y Roddaist.

As well as that, Stephanie Harvey Powell, a soprano from Penderyn near Aberdare, sang a number of operatic arias including Oh Mia Bambino Caro

The choir’s spokesman added: “From the many favourable comments received after the concert it was gratifying for the Cwmbach Male Choir to leave Ludlow in the knowledge that the audience had thoroughly enjoyed the nights entertainment.”
