Community stops to remember those who gave their life

PEOPLE around the Cynon Valley have been rememberin­g those who gave their life in service and there are a number of other events taking place this weekend. The Aberdare Branch of the Royal British Legion has announced its events for Remembranc­e 2017.

Firstly, a short service will take place at the Cenotaph, Victoria Square, Aberdare on November 11 at 11am.

Then, the Remembranc­e Parade and Service will take place on November 12.

The parade will form at Aberdare Library at 10.15am and march off at 10.35am to the Cenotaph, Victoria Square.

The service and wreath laying will take place at 11am. A service will also take place on that day at the Llwydcoed War Memorial at 3pm.

Elsewhere, last week, children from Miskin, Darrenlas, Glenboi and Caegarw Primary Schools came together to sing and pray at the Memorial Garden in Mountain Ash to celebrate the opening of the 2017 Poppy Day appeal.
