New home for our young musicians
JUST looking at these young musicians one can feel the exceptional musical environment that they are in and they all give the impression they are all going to be well rounded citizens!
Ty Cerdd is celebrating 35 years of excellence in youth music – and now hands the reins over to National Youth Arts Wales (NYAW). The final concert by 2017 National Youth Brass Band of Wales took place on September 16 and is now under the aegis of National Youth Arts Wales.
The National Youth Brass Band of Wales (NYBBW) was formed in 1982 by the Welsh Amateur Music Federation which merged with Welsh Music Information Centre in 2004 to create Ty Cerdd.
Welsh music is fundamental to Ty Cerdd’s work and they have commissioned many works.
Deborah Keyser, director of Ty Cerdd, said: “We are immensley proud of the work Ty Cerdd has delivered. We wish NYAW every success as they take over this important work and look forward to supporting them.
“While we’ll miss delivering ensembles we are excited about the opportunity it provides for us to work with new groups of children in Wales.”
Ty Cerdd’s raison d’etre is to “promote and celebrate the music of Wales” and with a variety of partners, they work to bring Welsh music to audiences across the country and world to protect the legacy of Welsh music of the past and to support new music.
Over the years Ty Cerdd has nurtured the NYBBW and they have gone from strength to strength with many young players going on to become fine professional musicians.
The NYBBW has toured the Netherlands, Norway and Canada and given

The National Youth Training Choir of Wales was formed in 2005 to provide additional choral experience to younger singers prior to or in conjunction with their auditioning for the National Youth Choir of Wales.
There are also the National Youth Jazz Wales, the National Training Band of Wales and the National Youth Symphonic Brass Wales and all have received expert tuition and great experience in such exalted environments.
Ty Cerdd has done an excellent job with these groups and we can but hope that this re-organisation will provide these young musicians with an even better musical environment and future.
