WELSH LEAGUE CUP ROUND 3
PONTYPRIDD TOWN ... 5 RISCA UNITED .............. 2
FOR the second successive Saturday, Pontypridd Town inflicted defeat on their Gwent rivals, this time to progress through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
Ponty ran out eventual 5-2 winners although trailing 2-1 at one stage of the match.
Both sides played more or less full strength teams in a rerun of the previous Saturday. This time the weather was more fortuitous and some excellent football was played.
Both sides entered into a good game of football and it was Ponty who struck first through club captain Scott Hillman (17 mins) two quick-fire goals from Risca through Tom Pratt and Tom Berry made it look like Ponty’s recent home jitters might continue.
However, a Danny Hooper penalty on 37 minutes and a fantastic header by MOTM Scott Hillman eased Pontypridd’s worries as they went in 3-2 up at halftime.
The second half was very much one-way traffic with Ponty going close on a few occasions. Andy Smith and Luke Gullick added two late goals on 80 and 86 minutes but the result was rarely in doubt.
