AMMANFORD gained the all-important victory against Llwydcoed in the battle of the basement teams.

It could have been so different if Llwydcoed had taken their chances.

AFC Llwydcoed manager Lee Williams was still without the services of Adam Butler and Leon Bansal (injured) and Liam Jones (suspended).

The match began with both teams trying to get to grips with the playing surface.

Llwydcoed started positively with Morgan Andrews, Ioan Evans and Jay Woodford combining.

The best chance of the opening minutes fell to Christopher Stonelake, his shot was saved by the Amman goalkeeper Ioan Treharne but his followup shot went wide.

The young visitors were doing brilliantly, the Amman defence were under pressure with Nicholas Arnold, Rhys Fisher, Matthew Jones and Nick Glendon at full stretch. Amman then settled and began to combine their attacks through Matthew Fisher and Cerith Williams.

The match was end to end and Llwydcoed were rewarded for their excellent movement in midfield with the opening goal with Ricky Carter scoring from an acute angle a just reward.

Amman responded and they were allowed too much room in the centre of the midfield allowing Amman to gain a series of free kicks.

Back came Llwydcoed through the excellent Gabriel Williams playing at full back linking up with Ioan Evans, Morgan Andrews and Christopher Stonelake who found Ricky Carter who shot over the bar, the Amman defence were the ones doing the bigger share of defending but Amman were still looking dangerous on the break and Llwydcoed were punished for some sloppy play, they cleared the threat only just for a corner and Cerith Williams scored with a free header.

Amman were now on top.

Llwydcoed defenders Gabriel Williams, Luke Davies, Stuart Evans and Scott Walters were under pressure and the halftime whistle blew with the scores level.

The playing surface had become that more difficult because of the persistent rain in the second half and that played a factor in the opening minutes of the half.

Llwydcoed’s Gabriel Williams tried to stop the threat of the Amman attacker but in doing so lost his balance and has he fell brought the Amman player down to give away the penalty.

Matthew Fisher stepped up to score.

Llwydcoed were forced into a substitution with Gabriel Williams receiving an injury during his fall, a cruel blow to the player and team Lee Williams coming on.

The next period of the game saw Llwydcoed players losing their composure after this horrible start to the second half.

Amman took full advantage, Matthew Fisher danced past a few tackles to score with a top finish.

The match had swung towards Amman.

Llwydcoed introduced substitute Ricky Evans who made an immediate impact keeping possession and his movement and pace causing problems for Amman.

Llwydcoed’s players rallied and deservedly reduced the scoreline through Scott Walters with a top header.

Amman were the ones defending; they tried to break out of defence but they finished the match on the defensive and survived to gain the victory.
