EBBW VALE ................. 43 LLANELLI .................... 15

JASON Strange was pleased with Ebbw Vale’s second-half performance as they came from behind to beat Llanelli at Eugene Cross Park.

The Steelmen have returned to form at the right time with back-to-back league victories after winning just three of their previous 13.

Dorian Jones got the hosts up and running with a penalty on 14 minutes but Llanelli hit back with Ryan Davies going over and Lewis Williams adding the conversion. A drop-goal from Williams extended their lead but Jones struck a penalty on the stroke of half-time to reduce the deficit.

“We didn’t have a very good first half so the message at half-time was quite straightforward,” said interim coach Strange, in temporary charge until Greg Woods joins after the first round of National Cup fixtures.

“We spoke about raising the intensity and trying to play a lot faster.”

Jones kicked another two penalties and added conversions to tries from Stefan Thomas and Ronny Kynes. Cameron Regan crashed over to keep Ebbw’s momentum going with Jones adding the conversion and another penalty.

Jack Condy pulled one back for Llanelli but Ebbw were awarded a penalty try in the dying seconds to claim a bonus point.

Strange added: “We’ve got a lot of confidence and we’re going into the second half of the season with a bit of momentum.”
