DIVISION THREE EAST CENTRAL B

-

TYLORSTOWN ............ 31 COWBRIDGE ............... 16

TYLORSTOWN move to top of the league with this resounding win over Cowbridge.

Before play started, Cowbridge led second place Tylorstown by a point and the home side prepared well in readiness for this game, knowing its importance was extremely high.

This was a terrific performance from the Tylorstown squad. The forwards laid a very strong platform for the backs to look sharp with quick ball. Stand out players in attack were Jordan Williams in the centre and wing Jamie Davies.

Tylorstown’s first tries were testament to the strength and power of the forwards with Davies benefitting and crashing over. From a scrum on the five metre line, hooker Chris Lloyd charged over for the second with outside half Chris Harris adding the extras.

Tylorstown’s ball carriers were proving a handful for the visitors with flanker Marcus Chapman making inroads and his fine performance was rewarded with a try. With the Tylorstown pack completely dominant in the scrum, Cowbridge were adjudged to have brought the scrum to ground and the home side were awarded a penalty try.

Centre Williams ran hard all game and deserved his try which was converted by outside half Harris. Tellingly Cowbridge went passive in the scrums in the second half such was Tylorstown’s superiority.

With Tylorstown gaining a bonus point with this five-try victory, they lead the league by four points. Next Saturday’s game is another significant encounter with third-placed Llantwit Major visiting Penrhys Park. SECONDS TYLORSTOWN ............ 14 PENYGRAIG ................. 6 TYLORSTOWN opted to play up the slop at Blaenllechau Park in the first half with some strong running from the Tylorstown backs.

A mix-up in midfield caused an early try to be disallowed for the home side.

Penygraig took full advantage of a strong scrum and some good kicking to the corners which resulted with a penalty to go 0-3 ahead. This was quickly followed with another penalty for the visitors to go 0-6 up.

In the second half Tylorstown had the advantage of the slope. With some strong carries from prop Rhys Edwards and captain Craig Miles, Tylorstown gained good field advantage. Quick ball allowed centre Josh Kinson to race in under the posts for a Tylorstown try with the extras added by outside half Ricky Price.

Honours were even with both teams having possession. In the final 10 minutes of the game Tylorstown scored a team try with excellent hooker Jordan Willis crossing the line to secure the game. Price slotted the conversion to make the final score 14-6.
