Get yourself a bag for life from valleys artist Bagsy

THE anonymous Welsh artist Bagsy, known for his artwork on carrier bags in local supermarkets, is developing a range of reusable tote bags to celebrate the Valleys.

The guerrilla artist is known for his depictions of Valleys life randomly distributed around supermarkets in the Rhondda.

Previous pieces by Bagsy, who much like his hero Banksy fiercely guards his anonymity, could only be picked up by lucky shoppers who happened to come across one of his one-off works.

But in a bid to reduce the use of plastic bags, the artist has released a series of cotton tote bags featuring his designs.

Bagsy said: “The aim is to celebrate the valleys and to create a positive image.

“The project is also tackling green issues around the use of plastic bags.

“Bagsy hopes that the drawings of Bags For Life that Bagsy leaves at supermarkets in the Rhondda will make people think about their plastic bag usage and seek greener, ecofriendly alternatives.”

The first two editions will feature the Miners Family statue in Tonypandy and a “humorous” Welsh lady sketch.

Bagsy added that more editions will follow shortly.

The tote bags can be bought directly from Bagsy’s Facebook and Twitter pages or at Wonder Stuff in Treorchy.

The artist added: “Watch out for these printed Bagsy bags on the high street and double check your bag for life at the supermarket, it may just be a Bagsy Original.”

An exhibition of Bagsy’s work will be opened in the Rhondda next week, with the artist asking fans to check his Facebook and Twitter for updates.
