£1,000 equipment and kit boost for rugby club

A MOUNTAIN Ash rugby club has received a cash boost from a major housebuilder.

Mountain Ash RFC Mini and Junior Section has received £1,000 for new equipment and kit.

The donations come as part of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions campaign.

Each month the builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across south east Wales.

Lee Robinson, of Mountain Ash RFC, said: “This is a huge boost for our club. We operate mainly from donations and fundraising as well as generous contributions from the club’s main committee.

“This will help us purchase much-needed new equipment and kit, ensuring the children are coached effectively and learn the values of rugby union.”

Persimmon Homes currently has developments in Mountain Ash, Cardiff, Barry and Abergavenny.

A group which works to bring the Rhondda community together through fun activities has also received £1,000.

Ferndale Grassroots has been handed a £1,000 boost from Persimmon Homes East Wales to continue its working in promoting health, wellbeing, education and art in the area.

Victoria Williams, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are delighted to hand over this money to these two cracking groups.

“We are committed to supporting the groups and people who make a difference in their communities. It is part of us sharing our success and giving something back to the areas in which we build.”

Cathrine Silver, of Ferndale Grassroots, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation.

“Since 2015 we have delivered activities to improve community cohesion.

“We’re working closely with other groups such as youth service, schools and the fire service to educate, make sustainable improvements and raise aspiration.

“This money will help us to deliver our plan for 2018, which includes family events and sports events.”
