Has reality kicked in for Leavers?

ON June 23, 2016, Britain went to the polls and by the narrowest of margins voted to leave the EU. Why?

All manner of reasons have been given by those who voted leave, many of them very valid based on logical, well thought out judgements, but others based on near hysteria whipped up by Farage and friends and misinformation from the likes of bumbling Boris over the cost of EU membership and how much we could instead spend on the NHS.

Many of those people may have since realised that the NHS is not in fact going to get £350m a week from the magic money tree if we leave the EU. That the very same NHS is not groaning under the weight of immigrants putting pressure on the system, but instead being kept afloat by immigrant doctors and nurses. That we cannot put two fingers up to the rest of Europe and expect them to still offer us all the benefits of membership without the cost. That the negative effects of leaving on our economy are going to be huge.

They voted to give back control to a UK government that has proved itself to be at best incompetent, that more than 18 months on still cannot give us any idea of what deal may be on the table with regards to trade or anything else. I don’t believe that is what most of them voted for.

There must be an option for the people of Britain to go to the ballot box and vote again on the final deal and whether at that point, when they are in possession of all the facts, they want to change their minds. Councillor Mike Powell Welsh Liberal Democrat, Trallwn, Pontypridd
