Table tennis Games glory
TWO Blaenau Gwent players were in the Welsh table tennis team which finished fifth in the women’s team event at the Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast.
The country’s two leading women, Charlotte Carey from Ebbw Vale and Chloe Thomas from Tredegar, were joined in the team by 11-year-old prodigy, Anna Hursey from Cardiff.
They faced a tough first match in the group stages, losing 3-1 to the eventual gold medal winners, India.
Wales recovered to beat Sri Lanka 3-1, but then lost 3-1 in the quarter-finals to the host nation, Australia.
All three girls are now competing in the individual events.
