Extra funds for new link road project
ALMOST £2m of extra funding is being pumped into the Mountain Ash Cross Valley Link road.
The additional money takes the total investment to almost £12m, with almost £5m coming from the Welsh Government.
The overall scheme will see a 60m bridge built from Cwm Cynon Industrial Estate to Miskin Road, providing a link for traffic between the A4059 and B4275.
The funding boost comes as RCT Council announced a further £2.67m from the Welsh Government for highways and transportation schemes in 2018/19, with the £1.5m funding allocated separately. Council leader and cabinet member with responsibility for highways councillor Andrew Morgan said: “The Welsh Government’s Local Transport Fund for 2018/19 has confirmed that Rhondda
“Cynon Taf will receive £2.67m to help deliver local highway schemes – and this important, external funding continues to be welcomed.”
He added: “The additional £1.86m for the Mountain Ash Cross Valley Link is also welcomed, as works continue to progress on the A4059/Cwm Cynon Industrial Estate junction, ahead of the construction of the new link road later this year.”
In addition to the £1.5m, the council will receive £368,000 from the Local Transport Fund for the Mountain Ash Scheme.
Total funding for the scheme is now £11.92m with £4.89m coming from the Welsh Government.
Local authorities in Wales were invited to apply for funding for priority schemes and RCT was successful in five areas.
They will receive £165,000 for Safe Routes in the Communities £394,000 for Road Safety Capital Grant, £119,000 for Road Safety Revenue Grant, £1.69m from the Local Transport Fund and £300,000 from the Local Transport Network Fund.
