THIS year’s Bands in Bedwellty Park season, started in Tredegar on Sunday, May 27, with Rogerstone Community Band.
These band concerts start at 3pm and finish at 5pm and are free.
Mid Rhondda will be in the bandstand and their concerts are well worth listening to.
is Armed Forces Day with various activities taking place from noon until 5pm.
The Band of the Royal Welsh Regiment will be present and I assume that they will be playing from 3pm-5pm, but this is not official so it may be sensible to confirm their time of playing by contacting Tredegar Town Council.
If the weather is clement this is a great day out for the family.
Tongwynlais Temperance Band, presently ranked the third band in Wales (after Cory, who are ranked number one in the world and Tredegar Town Band whose world ranking is sixth), will be in the bandstand on
and should not be missed.
On activities start from noon in celebration of Aneurin Bevan Day and Tredegar Band will be present entertaining the community after their recent groundbreaking appearance at the Old Vic Theatre, London and their world premiere of Spem in Alium (composed by Thomas Tallis in 1570) in Llandaff Cathedral, which has re- ceived public acclaim.
Playing in Bedwellty Park Bandstand may seem rather mundane after their recent exploits, but they enjoy playing locally and it also helps to keep things in perspective as they are creating another ground breaking event by being invited by the Speaker of the House of Commons to give a concert in the State Chambers of the Houses of Parliament on July 5, the first brass band ever to be so invited to appear in the State Chambers.
It’s also another family day that should not be missed. Ebbw Valley Brass, 2018 Welsh Region 1st Section Champions who will represent Wales at the finals of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at Cheltenham in September, will be playing in the bandstand and
will see Crosskeys Silver band under their new conductor Sion Jones, who is a euphonium player with Cory
