JENKINS INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME

-

LLWYNYPIA’S Stephen Jenkins has become only the second person to be inducted into the University of South Wales’s Sports Hall of Fame,

The international table tennis player and coach follows in the footsteps of athlete and rugby player Nigel Walker.

Stephen no longer plays competitively, but has emerged as a successful national coach with Table Tennis Wales and recently returned from the Commonwealth Games in Australia and the world team championships in Sweden.

In an 18-year playing career, he competed in World, European and Commonwealth Championships, winning two Commonwealth bronze medals.

A former Welsh champion, he represented his country many times, often alongside his brother Ryan, and also played professionally for clubs in Germany, Switzerland and Belgium.

Aged 35 and a psychology graduate from the University of Glamorgan, now part of the University of South Wales, Stephen is a former Rhondda Sports Personality of the Year.

The University of South Wales says only current or former students who have achieved sporting success at a high level will be considered for induction into the Sports Hall of Fame.

Stephen, now living with his wife and daughter in Caerphilly, said he was delighted with the honour the university had bestowed on him.
