Diversification is the name of the game at Taff Valley Quad Bike and Activity Centre
TAFF Valley Quad Bike and Activity Centre opened in 1992. It began as a farm diversification and the business has grown year on year adding other activities to develop the business.
It started with six all-terrain vehicles (quad bikes) and now has a fleet of more than 40 – catering for all ages and ability.
Activities now include clay shooting, archery, a woodland assault course and gorge walking. The centre networks with other providers to include activities such as paintballing, speed boats on Cardiff Bay and pony trekking in the Brecon Beacons along with activities as diverse as chocolate making and graffiti art.
Taff Valley delivers education courses and training in the use of quad-bikes. Courses on gun crime and gang culture are also available, as are OCN’s for young people in maintenance and safe driving of quad bikes along with basic, intermediate and advanced driving. It also delivers citizenship courses for young people.
The woodland assault course introduced two years ago has been very popular with corporate and sports groups for teambuilding – although the most popular groups are hen parties.
Taff Valley links with hotels, guest houses and bunk barns to provide packages including accommodation.
Corporate customers have included, Panasonic, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Admiral, Inland Revenue, DTZ, Scandinavian airlines, McDonalds, Capita, Tesco etc.
The property is also used for filming locations which have included, Question of Sport, Belonging, Gadget Show, Dress to Impress, Alfie’s Angels, X Ray and others.
Sports groups which have used the facilities, include: Georgia international rugby team, Cheltenham Football Club, Wells Rugby, Aylesbury Rugby as well as judo clubs, netball and hockey teams and scouts, girl guides and other sports and community groups.
Future plans include group accommodation in converted shipping containers, an air rifle range and developing a facility for drones and model planes.
A farm diversification initially employing two part-time family staff has now grown to five full-time, three part-time and up to 10 contract and casual staff on weekends.
