‘Monster of Mountain Ash’ looking for a name

A GIANT dinosaur dubbed The Monster of Mountain Ash has appeared on a main road – and now the company behind the beast wants the public to give it a name.

Ben Powell, who runs life-sizemodels.com with his sister Lucy, installed the giant velociraptor on top of their friends’ garden along the A4059.

Now the duo have turned to social media to ask members of the public to name the 5ft 4in model dinosaur. Mr Powell said: “We came up with the idea because we wanted to get our name out there.

“We asked a family friend if we could put it on their roof and they agreed. sam and Gareth were up for a bit of fun and of course, some publicity for our company.

“It’s getting a lot of attention and we wanted to get people involved. My favourite name is Vinny because it’s a velociraptor but other favourites are Valerie and Veronica.”

The pair will keep the competition going until the end of the month when a name for the dinosaur will be chosen.

“We will select the winning name at the end of the month and everyone who joins in will be entered into our competition to win £150 worth of model of their choice,” said Mr Powell.

“They just have to like our page and tag two friends.”

The pair took over the family business, based in Cwm, Ebbw Vale from their father.

The firm has sold models to the likes of Tim Burton and Boris Johnson.

Last week, two adverts advertising the company’s products were barred from Facebook because it thought they were selling live animals and sex toys.

The firm had the adverts removed from its Facebook page because the site believed a T-Rex dinosaur model was a live animal and an ad for a model sheep was classed as a sexual enhancement item.

Mr Powell said he was shocked when he saw the ads had been barred but did see the funny side. “It made me chuckle,” he added.

“We have never had any issues with our Facebook shop previously. This is the very first time.”
