Sudbrook posted a respectabl­e 234-7 from their 50 overs, with Ross Lewis (38) and Charles Heaven (38no) leading the way, but they couldn’t get near Newbridge.

A win for Newbridge this weekend could see them leapfrog Miskin at the top of the table ahead of their game in hand against Abergavenn­y on Sunday, but victory for Miskin would see them open up a big gap.

At the other end of the table, Pontypridd slipped into the bottom two after a nine-wicket defeat at fellow strugglers Croesyceil­iog.

Ponty struggled with the bat after they were inserted with four of their batsmen failing to add any runs to the tally. Three reached double figures with opener Ali Saeed bagging 30.

But they were soon skittled out on 103 thanks to a five-for from Dan Evans (526).

Stewart Roden (69) and William Smale (24) then eased Croesy to victory.

Tondu remain at the bottom and are clinging on to their Division One status after their game with Pentyrch was cancelled due to the weather.

They are 55 points from safety with three games left to play.

Monmouth’s lead at the top in Division Two was cut to 14 points after they lost at Rogerstone Welfare by a huge 111 runs.

Blackwood Town weren’t able to fully take advantage as their game at Lisvane was abandoned with Blackwood on 1077 chasing 201.

It’s as you were in Division Three with the top two both having their games abandoned.

Leaders Creigiau were on 185-8 after 43 overs before the rain stopped play while Sully Centurions were bowled out on 158 with Vale on 26-1 from seven overs.

Meanwhile, Newport IIIs clinched the Division Four title with a crushing 172run victory over Mountain Ash in a topof-the-table clash.

Vale remain top of the Division 3 2nd XI table despite losing by 19 runs at Sully Centurions, Sully batted first and made 165-6, with Thomas Davies scoring 63, and Vale finished short despite Gethin Merry’s 41.
