PENYDARREN’S MARCH GOES ON

WELSH League new boys Penydarren BGC continued their faultless start to the season with a comprehens­ive 5-1 home victory over Chepstow Town to reach round three of the Nathaniel Car Sales League Cup.

Chris Colvin was at the double for the Merthyr-based side with Josh Brogden, Conner Kinsey and Asa Lloyd also on target in the win.

Penydarren, last season’s South Wales Alliance champions, were also 7-4 winners at West End in round one, while have taken maximum points from their first three matches in Division Three.

STM Sports also booked their place in the third round after putting Tredegar Town to the sword 5-0.

Josh Graham’s hat-trick inspired them with Ben Al Mun and David Biggs also getting in on the act.

Penybont also went nap as they thrashed other Welsh League newcomers Albion Rovers by the same 5-0 scoreline.

Adam Carpenter and Kane Owen scored twice with James Dixon getting the other goal.

Pontyclun are through after seeing off Afan Lido 3-0 thanks to the efforts of Tom Tweedy, Tom Holder and Joel Woodington, while Luke Cox’s goal proved decisive as Llantwit Major triumphed 1-0 at Gwent side Goytre.

Dinas Powys led against holders Trefelin courtesy of an Isaac Morrison goal, but would ultimately go on to lose the game 2-1 with Damon Thomas netting twice.

There will be no second final appearance in three seasons for 2017 runners-up Bridgend Street after they lost an epic game at Haverfordw­est County 5-4 after extra-time.

Elsewhere AFC Porth were defeated 4-1 at home by Undy Atheltic while Penrhiwcei­ber Rangers lost 3-2 at home against Garden Village.

Division One side Briton Ferry Llansawel needed a penalty shoot-out to beat Panteg from Division Three while the other sides through are Cwmamman United and Cambrian & Clydach.

Cambrian were 4-0 home winners over Ammanford with Liam Reed scoring twice while Richard French and Sam Jones also found the net.

In Welsh League Division Two, AFC Llwydcoed were involved in a 3-3 thriller at Croesyceil­iog.
