PENYDARREN BGC lost their unbeaten start in Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Division Three after a 3-2 defeat to Trefelin, despite holding a 2-0 lead at half time.

Christopher Colvin put the league new boys ahead with stunning strike from distance and Alex Long doubled their lead soon after as Penydarren looked set for a fourth win from four.

But Trefelin improved after the break with Damon Thomas levelling the score with a brace.

Asa Lloyd then saw red for Penydarren before Thomas sealed a remarkable comeback.

Penydarren’s defeat saw Trethomas Bluebirds extend their lead at the top to three points with a 6-0 victory at Panteg.

Matt Prosser led the way with a double for the leaders. Adam Raymond, Tom Neville, Owen Davies and Ricky Jones then completed the rout.

Meanwhile, Treharris Athletic Western returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win at Penrhiwceiber Rangers.

After going a goal down, Rangers put the ball in their own net to hand Western an equaliser.

Rhys Williams then finished off a fine team move to earn all three points for Treharris.

Elsewhere, Joel Woodington was on target as Pontyclun drew 1-1 with Tredegar Town.

Meanwhile, Penybont put in a fivestar display with a 5-0 win over Ton Pentre in Division One.

Marcus Griffiths fired them into a half-time lead and found the net again a few minutes after the restart.

Sam Roden all but sealed the three points on 66 minutes before Adam Carpenter and Kane Owen added a quickfire double to add gloss to the scoreline and maintain their unbeaten start.

They stay at the top, just one point above Haverfordwest County, who beat Afan Lido 2-1.

Meanwhile, Division Two champions Llantwit Major claimed their first victory in the league this season at the fifth attempt with a 2-1 win over Port Talbot Town.

Blake Morgan gave Port Talbot the lead midway through the first half but Anthony Rawlings levelled proceedings two minutes after the restart with a deflected effort that wrong-footed Port Talbot ‘keeper James Harris.

Major took the lead eight minutes later with Sean Williams rising highest to nod home from a corner. Major had to weather a late storm but managed to hold on to claim all three points.

Pontypridd Town, who came up with Major, also bagged their first win of the season with a 1-0 triumph over Goytre United.

But Taffs Well slipped to the bottom after a comprehensive 3-0 loss to Cwmbran Celtic.

Elsewhere, Cwmamman United were 1-0 victors over Ammanford while Goytre and Cambrian & Clydach drew 1-1.

Over in Division Two, Caerau Ely moved up to third with a routine 3-0 victory over Risca United while Bridgend Street dropped to fifth after a narrow 3-2 loss at Caldicot Town.

Callum Smith gave Street an early lead but Caldicot levelled on the stroke of half time through Ben Smith.

Callum Smith struck the woodwork shortly after the break before Jeff White re-established Street’s lead. But late goals from James Gidney and Connah Hughes handed three points to Caldicot.

In other action, Dinas Powys lost 2-0 to Monmouth Town while Abergavenny Town lost 2-1 at AFC Llwdycoed. WITH the top two on FAW Trophy duty, Caerphilly Athletic took their chance to move second in the Highadmit Projects South Wales Alliance Premier Division with a 3-2 win at Brecon Corries.

Gareth Tedstone, Nathan Cook and Alfie Leadbeater were all on target as Caerphilly moved one point behind leaders Ynyshir Albions, albeit having played a game more.

Paul Kedell struck both Brecon’s goals.

Mof UCH to Merthyr Manager Gavin Williams’ annoyance this game turned into attack and defence with chances galore at both ends during the 90 minutes.

Both teams looked lively going forward but both defences looked ectremely vulnerable and it could have been 4- 3 by half time.

As it was it was 2-0 to Merthyr with Ashley Evans heading home Kerry Morgan’s cross on 13 minutes and Ian Traylor scoring from a similar spot and from a similar cross sixminutes later.

From there Merthyr should have gone on to win the game and with Morgan having also seen another effort cleared off the goal-line by defender Nesta Guinness-Walker and Tom Meechan striking the back post with a header they could have been out of sight at the interval.

However, it was not all one way and Met Police’s Jack Mazzoni could have had a first half hat-trick, seeing two efforts saved by home goalkeeper Steve Cann and being denied by the woodwork at the third attempt.

However, on the stroke of half time the visitors did reduce the arrears, Charlie Wassmer heading on a long goal-kick to John Gilbert who slid the ball under the advancing Cann.

The chances continued at the restart and Thomas Williams kept Met Police in the game with fine saves from Morgan and Owain Williams who was clean through on goal.

And, with five minutes remaining Merthyr paid the price for wasting thise chances when the Police got their equaliser.

A cross from the right was headed on by Wassmer and Mazzoni was on hand to get the goal he had probably deserved.

At the death Mazzoni could have won it, Cann keeping his shot out and scrambling the ball away but Williams will rue all those missed opportunities.
