IT’S as you were at the top of the South Wales Premier League with the top three all winning and collecting 18 points.

With just four matches of the season now remaining St Fagans, on 211 points from 14 played, still have a 13-point advantage over nearest challengers Neath after their victory by 27 runs at Port Talbot Town.

St Fagans, after being put in, were all out for 190. Opener Mitchell Edwards (50) and Andrew Gorvin (58) struck halfcenturies and both then bagged two wickets each with the ball as Port Talbot were sent back for 163 in reply.

Meanwhile, having lost at St Fagans the previous weekend, Neath knew another defeat would prove damaging but they bounced back with a five-wicket win at reigning champions Newport.

In-form Lorenzo Machado was a centurion for the second weekend running but this time it was in a winning effort as his unbeaten 100 helped Neath successfully chase down the 197 they had been set for victory with two overs to spare.

Newport, who included Glamorgan’s Michael Hogan in their attack, had earlier posted 196-7 off their 50 overs.

Cardiff are also still in with a shout of regaining the title they surrendered to Newport last year. Greg Holmes’s side won by 99 runs against Ammanford at Forest Farm and remain 23 points back in third.

Opener Umar Malik topscored with 83 as Cardiff reached 179-8 off 50 and then skittled Ammanford out for just 80 in reply.

Bottom side Clydach handed themselves a relegation lifeline with a two-wicket win over Pontarddulais.

Mumbles won by five wickets at Bridgend Town. The hosts were all out for 151 and Mumbles eased to 155-5, Scott de Weymarn hitting 59.
