A FREE music festival is returning to the Cynon Valley next month.

Cwmfest 2019 will be held at five venues across Cwmaman on September 27-29. Entry to all venues is free, say organisers.

The line-up features a diverse range of musicians spanning from rock, folk, metal and everything in between from originals, covers and tribute artists.

The headliners are Wager, who appear at the Aman Tavern on the Saturday, Aberdare rockers Fireroad at The Shepherds Arms on Saturday, Skacasm at the Aman Tavern on Sunday and Taffy Was a Thief at The Globe on Saturday. The other venues hosting acts are The Falcon Inn and the Top Club.

Wager were booked last year before they had a name and this year will be returning to top the bill.

The festival’s organisers say: “Since their incredible performance at The Globe last year, they’ve gone on to release their debut EP which has had tens of thousands of streams and has been picked up by Spotify’s playlist curators, placing them in the punk spotlight with a global audience lapping up their classic punk stylings.”

Also on the line-up are Heavy Flames, Carolines, Trevor and the Sprouts, Parcel of Rogues, Dr Bland’s Bad Batch, Hang 11, Jamie McCardle and dozens more.

The event is run by hardworking volunteers and four fundraisers have been held this year to raise the money to help keep the festival free.

Organisers say the event, which is now in its 12th year, attracts hundreds of music fans to the “hidden heart of the Welsh music scene”.

They add: “The village transforms over the weekend; Cwmaman has always been a hub of musical talent and arts, and Cwmfest always strives to showcase that talent, as well as bringing new artists to the area from Cardiff and further afield.

“No matter who is playing, visitors are always guaranteed a brilliant atmosphere.
