Plans for £400,000 upgrade to gas services set to go on show

- STAFF REPORTER newsdesk@walesonline.co.uk

PLANS for a £400,000 gas pipe upgrade scheme in Aberaman will go on show to the public later this month.

The essential work, being carried out by Wales & West Utilities, will keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area.

More than a kilometre of gas pipes will be upgraded. Work is expected to begin on April 6 and barring any engineering difficulties is expected to be finished by the end of september.

Phased road closures and traffic lights will be used throughout the work.

The first section of work will involve a closure on Beddoe Street, from its junction with Cardiff Road and Lewis Street. This will be in place from April 6 for two weeks. Before work begins, Wales & West Utilities is inviting local people to a drop-in event to find out more information about the scheme.

The event will be held on Tuesday, March 17, between noon and 6pm, at Abercwmboi Rugby Football Club, Cardiff Road.

Adam Evans, who is managing the gas pipe upgrade work, said: “We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the Aberaman area.

“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“We’re looking forward to speaking to local people, letting them know what we have planned and how we’ll be keeping disruption to a minimum.”
