MP wants workers to shop employers ignoring coronavirus safety

-

CALLS have been made by an MP for evidence about workplaces which are not taking the necessary steps to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Cynon Valley MP Beth Winter has issued a call after reports of workers being forced to work without adequate hygiene facilities, PPE (personal protection equipment), or social distancing put in place.

Some workers report being made to go to work despite being deemed “at risk”.

A number of non-essential employees are being told to work, which increases the risk of spreading coronavirus as they travel to and from work.

The ambiguity of the Government’s message is also causing many nonessential employers to insist on staff attending work, she said.

Beth Winter MP says that bad employment practices risk worsening the spread of the virus.

She said: “Many businesses in Cynon are acting responsibly and are taking steps to protect their workers and the public.

“Welsh Government has made additional available to assist through this time.

“However, other businesses have so far been ignoring their responsibility to keep their workforce safe. This has to stop.

“I encourage all my constituents funds businesses difficult in Cynon Valley to come to me with any examples of employers who are not taking every possible step to keep their workers safe.”

She added: “This information will be passed on to Westminster so that the Government can take appropriate action to prevent such bad practices and to clarify advice to employers.

“If you would like to report any examples of bad practice, please email to beth.winter.mp@ parliament.uk. We will ensure that your identity is protected.”
