Talented young musicians are proud to be part of Llwydcoed
ELISABETH Rogers continues to furnish us with the low-down on the players in the Llwydcoed Band...
Malachi Taylor is from mid Wales and started playing the bass trombone after watching a performance by Grimethorpe Colliery Band when he was15.
Since then he has been successful in studying A-level music, become a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Wales and is currently studying music performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
Malachi joined Llwydcoed in November 2018 and has been a part of many succesful performances and results including our promotion to the Grand Shield at the Blackpool Spring Festival and in winning at the National Eisteddfod in 2019.
Malachi also played a part in the band qualifying for the 2020 National Finals. He is a powerful bass trombonist, which is vital in any band and he is looking forward to the future with the College of Music and as a member of Llwydcoed Band.
Meanwhile, a brand new recruit to Llwydcoed Band is Faye Jones – an accompished pianist and a percussionist. She began her musical journey by playing the piano at the age of five.
Through her love for the piano and classical music Faye has had the opportunity to try out new instruments and join different ensembles.
She started playing tuned percussion two years ago and was due to sit her Grade 8 exam this Spring, but the exam has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Faye is currently a member of the Rhondda Symphony Orchestra, Rhondda Cynon Taf Youth Orchestra, the Four Counties Youth Orchestra and she occasionally accompanies the Dare To Sing
Choir. She has previously helped out the Hibernian Brass Band in Mountain Ash and also plays the organ at St Winifred’s Church in Penrhiwceiber.
Faye is incredibly excited to begin playing with Llwydcoed Brass Band and is grateful for the opportunity.
This will enable this talented musician to broaden her experience by playing with a brass band and to become familiar with the brass banding world.
They are extremely happy to welcome Faye to the band and look forward to the future with her as part of their percussion section.
