Steve and Helen join in the search for Britain’s Animal Heroes

- Nominate for the 2020 awards now at animalheroawards.co.uk

STEVE and his wife Helen are on the hunt for amazing animals and animal-lovers who deserve to be honoured this year by the Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards.

Says Steve: “Lockdown was tough for everyone, but one thing is certain – having a pet at home made it just a bit easier.

“We can’t wait to hear about the amazing animals that helped people get through this incredibly hard time, and gave them something to smile about.”

Helen adds: “It’s a year since Steve and I hosted the Animal Hero Awards at the Grosvenor House, and it’s hard to believe how much has changed – we have new twins for a start.

“I know our pets helped us through lockdown, and I can’t wait to hear about the other animals who gave their families the same invaluable support.”

The Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards are searching for the most inspiring, uplifting and breathtaking stories of heroism in the animal kingdom.

Whether it’s a dog or cat who has battled back from appalling neglect, a caring animal who has transformed someone’s life, or simply a loyal companion who made lockdown bearable, we want to hear about them. The Animal Hero Awards, with sponsor Webbox and charity partner Battersea, also honour people who have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for animals. In homes, animal shelters and communities all over Britain, amazing acts of compassion and courage are happening every day, and we are excited to celebrate them with the Animal Hero Awards 2020.

Our team of researchers will look at every entry to compile a shortlist for the judging panel.

Last year’s awards, hosted by Helen and Steve, honoured winners such as Rich Hardy, who spent 20 years investigating horrific animal abuse all over the world, and former farmer Jay Wilde, who donated his herd to a sanctuary instead of sending them to slaughter, and became a vegan campaigner.

Tony Raeburn, CEO of Webbox, says: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Animal Hero Awards for the third year running.

“The strange times we’ve experienced this year have only highlighted the special bond that people have with their pets, which makes it such an important year to share these amazing stories. So much so, we’re excited to introduce the new Webbox Joy of Pets award to celebrate the joy that pets bring to people’s lives.”

Claire Horton, Battersea’s chief executive, adds: “We are thrilled to be the charity partner for the Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards for the second year running. Here at Battersea we truly believe that animals can transform lives. There are so many rescue animals helping their owners by providing devotion and companionship, and we look forward to hearing these inspirational stories.”
