HILARY SWANK MOVIES
1BOYS DON’T CRY (1999)
HILARY had already appeared in films such as The Next Karate Kid and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but her role as transgender Brandon Teena in Boys Don’t Cry put her on the map, winning her an Oscar. Hilary beat hundreds of other actresses to nab the role and lived life as a man for a while to prepare for the movie. It is said her fee for the film was just $3,000.
2MILLION DOLLAR BABY (2004)
SHE won another Oscar for playing boxer Maggie Fitzgerald in this critical smash directed by Clint Eastwood, who also played trainer Frankie Dunn in the film. Hilary developed an appreciation for the sport, saying: “There is such an art to boxing. It’s like a game of chess. When you’re in the ring, you’re one with your opponent. Everything goes silent and it’s you and that person.”
ROMANTIC tearjerker about a young widow who is helped through her grief by a series of letters left for her by her late husband. The movie was based on the bestselling debut novel of Irish writer Cecelia Ahern and the cast included Gerard Butler, right with Hilary, and Lisa Kudrow.
4AMELIA (2009)
HILARY played pioneering American pilot Amelia Earhart who disappeared without trace in 1937 while attempting to fly around the world. Amelia was also the first woman to fly a plane solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Richard Gere played her husband George Putnam. “I usually die in my movies,” Hilary has said. “I don’t live to see the credits.”
