JD Cymru South

-

LEON Britton won’t get much of a chance to rest his aching legs this week after completing his first 90 minutes of football for more than two and a half years.

The former Swansea City midfield hero is rolling back the years at Ammanford in JD Cymru South this season and was pleased to help his new side win 3-0 at Llanelli Town in the first round of matches in the league for 503 days in front of a Stebonheath crowd of 750.

At 38, he might have expected to be one of the older players in the side, but ahead of him was his former Swansea team-mate Lee Trundle, who despite being 45 predictably grabbed the headlines with two of his side’s goals.

“There is nothing like a competitive league match, but it is relentless,” said Britton, who like Trundle was lining up against a side he once played for.

“It’s coming thick and fast straightaway and we’ve got three games in a week. We play again on Tuesday and then we’ve got Taffs Well on Friday.

“It will take a little bit of adjustment for all players and all teams after no football for 15 months.

“I guess that’s where the managers will look to their squads because there will be knocks and bumps along the way with players adjusting to not having played for so long.”

One of Trundle’s two goals came from the penalty spot and the third goal for the visitors came from Tristan Jenkins.

In other games in the South section, there were two goals apiece for Dan Jarman and Ryan Prosser in a thrilling 3-2 win for Cambrian & Clydach Vale at Undy Athletic.

Prosser ensured the visitors were 3-1 up with his second in the 57th minute shortly after Jarman had got his first. Jarman then made it three goals in five minutes to haul it back to 3-2, but Cambrian held out to take the three points.

Briton Ferry Llansawel beat Swansea University 3-0, while an 81st-minute goal from Calum Bateman at Taffs Well earned Goytre United a fine away win.

There was late drama at Pontypridd, where the home side salvaged a point with a 90th-minute goal from Lee Baldock that came two minutes after Noah Daley had edged Carmarthen Town ahead.

That goal denied new Carmarthen boss Sean Cresser – who has taken over the reins from Kris O’Leary – a first league victory.
