THE WRU has launched an investigation after video footage of an apparent fracas involving players and spectators during a youth rugby game emerged online.

The video, which was posted to social media, is believed to have been shot during the youth match between Mountain Ash and Merthyr Tydfil, and appears to show players confronting each other, before matters then spill over into the stands as shocked match officials watch on.

The cause of the brawl isn’t clear, although the initial flashpoint appears to have involved players from both teams on the pitch.

Several spectators then appear to get involved, with one seemingly knocked to the ground as punches are thrown, before the fight is eventually broken up.

A woman can be heard shouting: “You’re hitting kids you stupid man, you’re hitting 16-year-old kids.”

The video has since been taken down, but the WRU has now launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson said: “The WRU are aware of the incident, which is now being investigated.

“As such, we are unable to comment any further at this time.”

Both clubs have declined to comment on the incident, but could now face further action pending the WRU investigation.

Mountain Ash eventually won the game 7-0.
