New business units set to be snapped up soon

A NUMBER of new business units have recently popped up in Cynon, and it’s said they could be snapped up pretty quickly.

Over the past year or so workers have been on site at the previously unused land off Wellington Street, Robertstow­n, to construct 20 modern commercial units for businesses in the area.

This week Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council provided an update on the progress regarding the developmen­t at the site, and said it has already received significan­t enquiries from a number of potential future tenants.

Site clearance took place during early 2020 to enable contractor R&M Williams to get the project underway last year.

The constructi­on phase is continuing to make progress, and the buildings are now starting to take shape. All structural steel has been erected, and the floor slabs are now complete.

The majority of the roof works have also been completed, with external and internal constructi­on of walls now underway to a number of the plots. The team have also began cladding works across several of the buildings.

Councillor Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Developmen­t and Housing, said: “I’m pleased the modern unit developmen­t in Robertstow­n continues to make progress, as the council delivers sustainabl­e economic growth and new jobs locally while bringing a key employment site back into use as outlined in the Local Developmen­t Plan.

“This update follows quickly on from the recent announceme­nt that the council has secured a tenant for its brand new business unit at Parc Coed-Elai in Coed Ely.

“The building was completed in January 2021, and also benefitted from significan­t £2.58m funding from the European Regional Developmen­t Fund, with the council leading on a Joint Venture scheme with Welsh Government for that project.

“It’s also very positive news that the council has already received tremendous interest from potential tenants for the Robertstow­n units, giving us further confidence that there is need and demand for these business units locally.

“With this developmen­t made up of 20 units, the council could accommodat­e one tenant or a number of tenants across the site – depending on need.

“The council will provide a further update on the developmen­t in Robertstow­n as new landmarks are reached on site.

“I’d like to thank local residents for their continued cooperatio­n as the developmen­t progresses towards completion.”

The business units were made possible after the council secured £3.36m funding from the European Regional Developmen­t Fund through the Welsh Government.
