JD CYMRU PREMIER LEAGUE

SAM Jones notched a 34 minute hat-trick to inspire a 4-0 win for Cardiff Met at Aberystwyth Town to keep the students flying high in the JD Cymru Premier League.

Hot shot Jones (pictured) ensured the Cyncoed boys stayed at the top of the league with a perfect three-from-three record as they overran the home side.

Jones struck in the eighth, 29th and 34th minutes to make it 3-0 at the break and then Eliot Evans added a fourth to finish the job.

Once again Penybont posed reigning champions The New Saints a whole heap of problems at Park Hall before a 91st minute goal from Ryan Brobbel allowed the home side to pick up a 1-0 win.

The two teams had last met in the Welsh Cup final at Cardiff City Stadium, when TNS came out on top 3-2.

Rhys Griffiths’ side did what they promised to do and that was push Craig Harrison’s side all the way and nobody could have complained had they left with a point from Park Hall.

In the end, though, it was second half substitute Brobbel’s last gasp header than won the day and gave Harrison his first victory since returning to the club earlier this month. It was also a first win of the season for the champions.

Sion Bradley and Josef Faux earned Caernarfon Town a 2-0 home win over new boys Pontypridd United, while Michael Wilde scored his first league goal for Connah’s Quay Nomads since returning to the club in the summer from Flint as they won the Deeside derby with a 1-0 win over newly promoted Airbus UK Broughton.

Wilde struck two minutes into the second half with a diving header to give new boss Neil Gibson his first league win since transferring from Flint. It was a great way for John Disney to mark his 200th appearance for the Nomads, but was a third successive defeat in all competitions for the Wingmakers.

An 83rd minute goal from Ollie Shannon earned Bala Town a 1-1 home draw against Haverfordwest County.

Jack Wilson have the visitors the lead in the 34th minute.

Okera Simmonds is fast proving a big hit at his latest club, Flint Town United. Brought in from Chester FC in the summer, the 21-year-old former England U16 cap has scored in both appearances in the JD Cymru Premier League and has proved a handful for defences with his speed and trickery with the ball.

Having marked his debut with a wonderful volley in the 1-0 triumph at Pontypridd United, he added the second goal in a 2-0 win at Newtown to give his side an early lead in the table.

It was a run by Simmonds that paved the way for Flint to get a dream start with a goal after only three minutes at Latham Park from 39-year-old Danny Harrison.

It was his first goal for the club and set up another excellent victory.

Simmonds doubled the lead in the 35th minute after another strong run and shot and the Silkmen were in firm control.

Newtown had a chance to pull one back from the penalty spot early in the second half when Jay Owen was deemed to have handled the ball.

Up stepped Aaron Williams, the home’s side’s top scorer last season, but he couldn’t beat Dawid Szczepaniak and it stayed at 2-0.

Owen picked up a yellow card of the hand ball and then saw red when he was given a second yellow in the 72nd minute for a poor tackle.

But there was no denying Flint, who have now delivered two wins on the road for new boss Chris Hughes.

They travel for another away game at Penybont next weekend.
