We won’t get panic attack

- By Richard Tanner

VINCENT KOMPANY says Manchester City will not be pressing the panic button during their pursuit of neighbours United. but Kompany is happy with their form. He added: “We are coming to the boil. Even though we slipped up at Sunderland on Boxing Day, it wasn’t a bad performance. We were really unlucky and should have scored several goals.

“We also showed a lot of determination at Norwich . We were calm despite going down to 10 men. It never looked like we were going to make the mistake that would cost us three points.

“And against Stoke we had to overcome what was the best defence in the league. But when you look at the strikers we have, scoring goals should never be a problem. When you start a new year, it allows you to have a clean sheet and forget what has gone before. And if we carry on like this, and we have the whole squad available, things will turn for us – especially as we will be playing only one game per week.”

Kompany says whoever wins the title may need more than the 89- point total that both City and United fi nished with last season, when Roberto Mancini’s men edged it on goal difference on the fi nal day.

“It looks like that,” he said. “The reason we are not closer to United at the moment is not that we have been playing badly – we have lost only twice – but because United are doing extremely well.

“But we are perfectly capable of having a long winning streak that will bring us very close.

“You have to consider that all the other big teams are on a hot streak as well. The pressure is always on everybody because if you lose even a single point you might have two or three sides catching you up or even moving away from you.”
