WHY DAKOTA ALREADY IS FILM ROYALTY
DAKOTA Johnson may have been almost unknown before her star turn in erotic movie Fifty Shades Of Grey but the actress is carrying on a long family tradition in the business.
The 25- year- old is the daughter of Don Johnson, 65, who found fame in the 1980s cop show Miami Vice, and Working Girl star Melanie Griffith, 57.
Her maternal grandmother, Tippi Hedren, 85, famously starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller The Birds.
Dakota – who wore a plunging white dress last night to attend the London premiere of Fifty Shades with co- star Jamie Dornan, 32 – grew up at her father’s Colorado ranch.
There he taught her how to build a fire, ride a horse and shoot a gun, concluding: “That’s really all you need.”
But her parents split when she was four and divorced when she was seven. Dakota’s upbringing consisted of being shunted around different film sets and dealing with each of her parents’ new relationships.
Her mother later married Antonio Banderas, 54, from whom she separated last year, and they have a daughter, Stella, 18. Her father had a relationship with Barbra Streisand, now 72, before settling down with a teacher.
Speaking about her family this year, Dakota said: “My family is general Hollywood. They’re artists, creative people who are advocates for expressing themselves.”
But in 2010 she got a chance to make her own name in the business, with a job playing the one- night stand of Justin Timberlake’s character in The Social Network. In September 2013, she was one of the first cast members signed up for Fifty Shades.
The film follows Dakota as inexperienced college graduate Anastasia, who embarks on a sado- masochistic relationship with businessman Christian Grey ( Dornan).
During their intense affair, the controlling billionaire introduces her to his dark sexual tastes.
There have been reports that Dakota’s father and grandmother were not happy about her being in the film. She has denied this, saying: “None of my family members were concerned.” But mother Melanie is not in a position to complain. She had nude scenes at the age of 17 in 1975’ s Night Moves, and her first major role was as a porn star in Body Double in 1984.
Whatever her parents’ view of the matter, coy Dakota says she has banned them from
seeing the film.
