Horror as body parts are found in hunt for missing Becky
Family of missing Becky left devastated as police find body parts near to spot where she vanished
POLICE hunting for missing Becky Watts revealed yesterday that they have found body parts believed to belong to the missing teenager.
Last night the devastated family of the 16- year- old said they were “in hell” after being given the harrowing information.
The gruesome discovery was made as police, already quizzing a man and a woman about Becky’s disappearance, swooped on a further five people.
The find was just a mile- and- a-half from where she vanished,
In a statement, Becky’s mother Tania Watts, brother Daniel and grandmother Pat said: “We are devastated to be told of this latest development.
“We are at an utter loss to understand why anyone would want to hurt our beautiful Becky in such a brutal way.”
Avon and Somerset Police believe the schoolgirl’s body had been “cut up” at a property in Bristol close to several homes which have already been searched since inquiries began nearly two weeks ago.
Becky disappeared from her father Darren Galsworthy’s home on February 19 and has not been seen or heard from since.
Officers said the grisly discovery was made at a home in Barton Court in the Barton Hill area.
The home is behind a property forensics officers have been combing in Cotton Mill Lane opposite the home of her boyfriend Luke Oberhansli, 17.
Seized
Police were already questioning a 28- year- old man and a 21- year- old woman on suspicion of the kidnap and murder of the schoolgirl. Last night detectives were given an extra 24 hours to interview the pair.
After the body parts were discovered yesterday, a further four men, two aged 29, two 23 and a 23- yearold woman were seized on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Becky’s grim fate is believed to have been discovered after a tip- off on Monday evening.
Detective Superintendent Mike Courtiour said yesterday: “The information suggested that Becky’s body had been cut up and a search at the new location resulted in the discovery of body parts.
“Although formal identification procedures have not yet been completed, we have made Becky’s family aware of this discovery.
“This is devastating news for Becky’s family and friends and our thoughts are with them. We will continue to offer every support we can to them during this terrible ordeal.”
Family members said they were “completely broken” as the case became a murder inquiry.
Becky’s father Darren, 51, and stepmother Anjie, 49, described the news as “too much to bear”.
Her grandfather John Galsworthy said: “We are heartbroken at what has been discovered overnight. We cannot begin to understand what has happened and why.”
In a separate Facebook post, her brother Daniel wrote: “Can’t believe what I’m hearing, Really have lost faith in humanity this day.”
Becky’s cousin Dale Galsworthy posted: “At breaking point, how can you do this you monsters? I will never forgive you, you have broken my family’s hearts for life.”
Becky’s aunt Sarah Broom also wrote saying: “We’re all so completely broken with nothing left to give anymore.”
She added: “I’m sorry I haven’t been able to reply to every message or comment but please know I’ve shared each one with my whole family as we hold and support each other here in a hell that’s only just started.”
Detectives have seized a black Vauxhall Zafira – registration HY06 HYA – and say they want to speak to anyone who has ever owned the car or has seen it between February 19 and 23.
Police erected a white tent outside a property in Barton Court while forensics teams continued their work. The mid- terrace home close to Cotton Mill Lane was searched on Monday.
Floral tributes began to arrive yesterday afternoon. One simply read: “RIP Becky Watts.”
Another said: “Becky, you will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
“Our hearts go out to your family and friends on this sad day. Good night, sleep tight, you are with the angels now.”
A neighbour said: “It’s dreadful. I can’t eat and I just want to throw up. That poor baby. It’s terrible news.”
Officers have also previously carried out searches at Becky’s home in Crown Hill, St George, and at a house in Wilton Close, Southmead.
Becky left home with her iPhone, laptop and tablet computer but did not tell friends or family where she was going.
She was reported missing at 4pm on February 20 and a large search operation, involving six police teams each day, was launched.
