Husband ‘ killed wife in crash because she couldn’t cope with his sex demands’

- By Paul Jeeves

A CHURCH treasurer killed his wife by crashing his car because she denied him sex, a court was told yesterday.

Ian Walters, 51, veered off the M1 near Markfi eld, Leics, after a failed “make or break” trip to Yorkshire with Tracy, 48, in March last year.

Leicester Crown Court was told Mrs Walters was seriously injured and died in hospital two days later. Walters was charged with her murder.

The court heard they had a “troubled” rela- tionship and Mrs Walters had told relatives and police he was abusive.

The couple, from Swindon, Wilts, began dating in 2011 and married a year later. She had applied to fi nd out if he had a violent past.

Charles Miskin, QC, prosecuting, said that Walters, also a driving test examiner, had crashed because he “wanted to show her who was in charge, who was in control”. He said: “The principal issue here appears to have been sex. It seemed he wanted sex all of the time and she couldn’t cope with his demands. It seems he was using sex with her as a sort of sedative.”

The court heard that an hour before the crash, Mrs Walters texted her son to say she wanted to report Walters for abuse but was terrifi ed and she had also made a call to relatives from their holiday cottage.

Walters denies murder. The trial continues.
