Becks gets neighbours seething over air con

- By Chris Riches

DAVID Beckham’s grand plans for his London mansion have got his next- door neighbour a little hot under the collar.

The star wants to install a cinema, wine cellar, gym, plus air- conditioning to make it the ultimate home for the multimillionaire who has everything.

But plans for the £ 31.5million mansion fell foul of the neighbour who complained that the former England captain’s home could affect the historic character of the street.

Beckham and wife Victoria bought the listed Holland Park property – dubbed Beckingham Palace II – in 2013 and have spent 18 months drawing up plans to transform it.

But the neighbour objected after the Beckhams submitted designs to install air- conditioning in five rooms.

The neighbour “totally disagrees” with the changes and wrote to Kensington and Chelsea Council that it “must identify our deep concerns about all adverse impacts on living conditions from noise, vibration, dirt, pollution and dust from construction”.

There were also concerns about “associated traffic, in addition to concerns about impacts on drainage, on appearance and landscape, on structural stability and on historic buildings”.

The Beckhams have hired designer Rose Uniacke to oversee the project and plans for internal alterations were approved in February.

These included enlargement of a wine cellar and installation of a retractable cinema screen.

The couple also want to re- configure two bathrooms while removing a third- floor guest bathroom to form an extended bedroom and sitting room.

When ready the home will have six bedrooms, a gym, study, office, playroom, cinema and large drawing room.

The first floor will boast a huge bedroom, an even bigger dressing room and an en- suite bathroom.

A manicure room, which was initially proposed, is replaced with a study.

They submitted a fresh application for air- conditioning in February and the council is expected to make a decision in the next three weeks.

Local estate agents believe that the property will be worth £ 42million following the transformation.

The original “Beckingham Palace” was their former home in Sawbridgeworth, Herts.
