Jets in revenge raids on terror camps
KENYAN bomber planes hit two terror camps in neighbouring Somalia last night in revenge for the university massacre of nearly 150 people.
Defence spokesman David Obonyo said the raids had “completely destroyed” the Al Shabaab hideaways near the border.
Although the Al Qaeda- linked militants denied that the strikes had hit targets, Kenya’s forces said aerial pictures showed the damage.
Mr Obonyo said intense cloud cover made it difficult to determine the death toll from the raids.
In a separate move yesterday, Kenya announced it was drawing up a list of suspected members of Al Shabaab.
Security officials and politicians will help compile the catalogue from the names of youths who have disappeared or shown signs of radicalisation.
The twin moves were Kenya’s first responses to the shooting spree at Garissa University where four gunmen – including Abdirahim Abdullahi, the son of a Kenyan government official – targeted Christians before being killed by security forces.
Kenyan MPs have also called for the closure of Dadaab, a camp for Somalian refugees, said to be a recruiting ground for Al Shabaab.
The terror group wants Kenya to withdraw its military aid to the Somalian government in Mogadishu.
