£ 6m jackpot pair can’t stop doing the lottery

- 26 By Jan Disley

A COUPLE toasted their £ 6million Lotto win yesterday, saying: “Things like this don’t happen to people like us.”

Denise and Robert Scarr – who have seven children and 15 grandchildren – are planning a world cruise.

They also want a bigger house, a top- of- the- range BMW and plan a spending spree on gifts for family and friends.

Denise, 56, who works at a home fabrics store, has handed in her notice and Robert, 59, has quit his job as a quarry worker.

But the impact of the win on their day- to- day routine is yet to fully dawn. “We already have our tickets for this week and will be playing with lucky dips again,” laughed Denise. “I actually don’t think it has sunk in.”

The Scarrs, of Morecambe, Lancashire, won £ 6,311,254 in last Saturday’s draw.

Describing the moment they realised they had won, Denise said: “We were sat watching the live draw show on TV. I wasn’t paying that much attention, I was messing around on my laptop.

“Robert saw the first ball drop and shouted out, ‘ we have one number’... then it was...‘ we have two numbers’. As the third ball dropped he just screamed, ‘ we have £ 25, three numbers’.

“The conversation just went on and I went numb.

“The next thing Robert shouted was, ‘ oh my goodness, we have four numbers’.

“It was at that point I started to pay attention and Robert just let out this almighty scream, even louder than the first – ‘ we have won the jackpot’.

“The win has enabled us to both retire early and look forward to fulfilling all of our life- long dreams.”
