Why shell out? Get a £ 3 lobster

-

TO many it’s the ultimate gourmet indulgence but supermarket Lidl is now selling a whole lobster for just £ 2.99.

The “deluxe whole cooked lobster” was already a bargain at £ 4.99, but the German chain’s spring promotion means it is now available at half the price of cod and chips.

The “sustainable” 350g lobster is caught off the coast of New Brunswick in Canada and cooked and frozen locally before being shipped to the UK.

Native lobsters from Scottish or Cornish waters still command a higher price, between £ 20 and £ 30, because EU fisheries policy limits the number that can be caught and puts strict restrictions on size.

The offer, from a voucher in Lidl’s Easter brochure, is available until March 20.
