Joan’s glam launch

-

DAME JOAN COLLINS had the glitziest event of the week as an army of A- list pals showed up in London’s swanky Mayfair for her book launch.

Day & Night was also at the exclusive bash held at private members’ club Harry’s Bar for the actress’s new novel St Tropez Lonely Hearts.

Joan, whose high- profi le guests included actor Sir Michael Caine, 83, actress Liz Hurley, 50, and TV presenter Gloria Hunniford, 76, looked glam and decades shy of her 82 years.

She told us however that these days her famous look is confi ned to glitzy showbiz dos as she lives her everyday life like a regular Joan.

The former Dynasty star, who almost missed a Good Morning Britain appearance on Wednesday when a security guard failed to recognise her, tells us: “It was very funny. Loads of people don’t recognise me. When I go out to Waitrose or to Marks & Spencer I don’t go out looking like this. I just go out in a coat or something.”

She was also quick to dismiss any thought that she is high maintenance. “I don’t know about that! I don’t have a press agent and haven’t had one for 20 years or so and I try not to spread myself too thin. I’m so happy to spend time alone with my husband [ Percy Gibson].

“It doesn’t even bother me what people call me, Joan, Dame Joan, even, ‘ Hey you!’”

The star is now just happy to let others shine, including her god- daughter, top model Cara Delevingne, 23.

“She came to me for advice at the beginning and I gave her some, although I can’t remember what it was! But she has done exceedingly well and I don’t think she needs any from me now.”
