All the ups and downs

-

WITH the Football League regular season ending this weekend, GIDEON BROOKS assesses who has to do what to go up – or to avoid the dreaded drop…

LEAGUE ONE: Wigan have secured the title and will go up as champions. Burton are favourites to join them and need a draw to go up in second place, but could be pipped by Walsall who need Burton to lose to Doncaster and to win themselves by at least two goals.

Millwall and Bradford will go into the play- offs whatever their results, but Millwall could go third if they win and rivals Walsall lose.

Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Gillingham are all in with a chance of the fi nal play- off spot. Gillingham need to win and hope the other two lose. Scunthorpe and Barnsley need to better the other’s result to be sure.

At the bottom, two from Doncaster, Blackpool and Fleetwood will go down with Colchester and Crewe.

Doncaster look beyond help needing to turn around a 10- goal swing with Fleetwood. They host Burton. But should Blackpool beat Peterborough and Fleetwood lose to Crewe at home, it will be the Cod Army marching towards a season in League Two.

LEAGUE TWO: Three teams are in with a shout of claiming two promotion slots behind Northampton. Accrington and Oxford need to win their games against Stevenage and Wycombe respectively to be sure, but Bristol Rovers could leapfrog one or both of them with a win against Dagenham & Redbridge if there are slip- ups.

All three are guaranteed a play- off place at worst and will join Portsmouth, Plymouth and Wimbledon in the knockouts with the south coast pair set to occupy fifth and sixth places and Wimbledon seventh.

Dagenham & Redbridge and York are already down.
