Should have taken a bus
PREMIERSHIP footballer Danny Simpson has had a community service sentence he received for throttling his ex-girlfriend revoked. Leicester City star Simpson had the gall to claim that he was subject to unwanted attention and could not continue carrying out unpaid work in a charity shop.
Nobody forced him to drive there in a sports car. There are few things more likely to attract attention than a Lamborghini parked outside a charity shop. If he wanted to keep a low profile he should have taken the bus.
Thankfully the judge recognised that a footballer’s wages render a fine largely meaningless. Instead she imposed a curfew that will prevent Simpson from joining his team-mates on an end of season celebratory jaunt to Thailand.
He should have been made to complete his community service but it is a relief to know that he has not got away completely scot-free.
