Time to liven up the debate

-

WELL it has finally been announced. On Tuesday June 7 I’ll be going up against David Cameron in an ITV European Union referendum special.

It’s a big opportunity and one I am relishing. I wish it was face-to-face, but instead we’ll be taking questions from a live studio audience, one after the other.

I of course will be arguing why I think the UK would be safer, more secure and better off outside of the European Union.

I think Mr Cameron is vulnerable on this issue. He has clearly not been telling the truth.

We’ve seen just this week how he always intended to work with big business and big vested interests to try and scare the British people into remaining inside the European Union.

His so-called deal was a complete and total con job.

Wrong

It is simply not credible for the Prime Minister to have said on one hand that he was ruling nothing out on the European Union, only now to say that Brexit could cause World War Three.

I think people can see through the Government’s Project Fear, much of it backed up by the same people who said the UK would suffer if we didn’t join the euro.

They were wrong then and they are wrong now.

I do think this referendum campaign, which is going to be very long, needs livening up. That’s why I’ll be soon be touring the country in a double-decker bus, taking to the streets, visiting the big towns and cities and speaking to as many people as possible.

While this is a serious debate and is the most important political decision of our lifetime, there is nothing wrong in having a bit of fun during the campaign.

I hope to see some of you out there in the coming weeks.
