A PREGNANT woman and her boyfriend were being questioned last night after her five-year-old son drowned at a popular water park.

Charlie Dunn was pulled unconscious from a shallow lake by older children while his mother and stepfather packed up the car to go home.

At least three people tried to save him with CPR. But he died later in hospital when the couple took the decision to switch off his life-support machine. Doctors said he had suffered severe brain damage.

Charlie was visiting Bosworth Water Park, Leics, on Saturday afternoon.

It is understood he and his eightyear-old sister Rebecca walked off while Lynsey Dunn, 28 and her partner Paul Smith, 35, were preparing to leave. But only Rebecca came back.

Mr Smith’s mother, Sharon Robinson, said: “The police rang me at 1am to tell me Paul and Lynsey had been arrested. I screamed down the phone saying it was the last thing they needed. The whole thing is just horrendous.”

Ms Robinson, 50, described Charlie as a “loving boy” and a “typical fiveyear-old.” She said: “He was funny, cheeky and lovable. He used to always give me cuddles and would ask me to Little Charlie ‘was a funny, cheeky and lovable child who was brilliant at his school work’ help him with his homework. He loved his schoolwork and his school reports were brilliant. He was only on the first weekend of his school holidays.”

An older boy was reported to have found Charlie unconscious in the water. Writing on Facebook, Sheena Thomas said: “My 11-year-old nephew pulled this little boy from the water after feeling his hair whilst searching for his goggles he had lost.”

Ms Dunn, who is three months pregnant, was feeling unwell and the couple decided to leave. “They were just loading the car,” said Ms Robinson. “Paul shouted to the kids to go home. Rebecca came back but Charlie didn’t.”
