PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Drama: Brief Encounters, 9pm, ITV

Most of us know how stressful organising a wedding can be. There seems to be a never-ending list of things that need doing ahead of the big day. All of that is starting to get on top of poor Russell in tonight’s episode. He tells Dawn (Sharon Rooney, left) that the fuss she is making about their wedding preparations is more than he can cope with, leaving her in a spot. Away from that particular drama, Steph gets chatting to the community centre’s caretaker and agrees to talk to his wife about hosting a party – unaware of the widespread consequences of the decision. Finally, Nita comes to the conclusion that she must put her family first and gives Kieran an alibi for the hit-and-run.

Property: The Hairy Builder, 6.30pm, BBC2

This programme enters its third and final week today and Dave Myers (left) is in Sunderland for the latest project, working alongside a team restoring the city’s Roker Pier and Lighthouse. It is a far from simple task and Myers learns the perils of attempting to restore a round building. He also gets the chance to climb to the very top of the lighthouse in order to polish the lantern. Just four episodes remain after today so enjoy this while it is on air.

Soap: EastEnders, 8pm, BBC1

After a tumultuous few weeks in the Square the residents are attempting to come to terms with their loss as we visit Walford. Eager to take some of the pressure off Phil, Louise says she will take care of the Arches. However she realises she is out of her depth and is forced to ask Jay (Jamie Borthwick, above with Tilly Keeper as Louise) for help. Elsewhere Mick and Buster work together to help Lee shake off his doubts.

Quiz: Only Connect, 8.30pm, BBC2

A team of PG Wodehouse fans, collectively called the Psmiths, unite to take on wordsmiths the Verbivores in tonight’s Only Connect clash. Hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell (above, with the Psmiths), the teams must find a link between four things that seem to be totally unrelated. Among tonight’s quartet of clues is Cook in New Zealand, Georgia in Canada, Bass in Australia and Sunda in Indonesia.

Reality: Eden, 9pm, C4

After last week’s scene-setting opening episode we now know what this experimental show is all about and who the participants are. The 23 men and women involved have assessed what lies ahead for them over the next 12 months and must quickly adapt to their living conditions. Even this early, though, cracks begin to appear when Anton (right) spends an eternity building his cabin in the woods, leading to a confrontation.
