Mahrez cool at talk of Arsenal

- Tony Paskin

RIYAD MAHREZ will not be fazed by speculation over his future, according to Leicester team-mate Demarai Gray.

And he has backed PFA Player of the Year Mahrez to continue to shine for the Foxes.

Algeria midfielder Mahrez has been linked with a big-money move to Arsenal.

Reports in France talk of a £47 million switch to the Emirates for the playmaker Leicester snapped up for just £400,000 from Le Havre two years ago.

Mahrez was Leicester’s star man last season as they stunned the Premier League by winning the title.

Leicester have already lost N’Golo Kante to Chelsea in a £30m switch and manager Claudio Ranieri is adamant Mahrez is going nowhere.

Mahrez was sensational, scoring a superb goal, as Leicester secured a 6-5 penalty shootout win over Celtic in the International Champions Cup after the game ended 1-1.

And Gray believes Mahrez’s sparkling performance proves he is not affected by events off the pitch.

“There is a lot of speculation around him but he doesn’t seem to be bothered by any of that, does he?” said Gray.

“He works hard and he’s a Leicester player. We’ll just do what he does, train and focus on games.

“He was the Player of the Year and we won the league, so you expect speculation but he is a great professional and concentrates on what he does and contributes to the team, as you saw against Celtic.

It’s not really bothering him at all.”

Leicester now travel to America to take on Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona and Gray is looking forward to it.

He said: “It’s crazy. We’ve got a trip to America next week. I used to watch these types of tournaments on TV and now I’m involved. It’s a good experience.

“The attention we’re getting, we’re used to it now. I am looking forward to going to America.”
