SHOULD RUSSIA BE BANNED FROM THE OLYMPICS?
Yes
I REALLY don’t know what the world of sport is coming to (“Russia escapes blanket Olympic ban for doping”, July 25).
Here you have a clear-cut case of foul play and the perfect opportunity to deter would-be cheaters in the future.
But instead it seems like the International Olympics Committee has shirked responsibility as it passes the buck onto individual sporting federations to handle the problem.
It’s an insult to the hundreds of thousands of clean athletes who work hard and aim to be the best. Sheila Davids,

No
WHILE I dearly want the Russians involved in the state-sponsored doping scandal to pay the price for their actions, I don’t think it should be at the cost of the careers of Russian athletes who have stuck to the straight and narrow.
We are quick to condemn the nation as a whole but behind the hysteria are a lot of young people who have dedicated their lives to competing in these Olympic Games legitimately.
I propose heavy fines that could be then reinvested in world sport and a life ban for anyone who took part in the programme.
