Tornado? All part of our crazy summer!
BRITAIN’S turbulent weather took a new twist at the weekend – as a monster tornado blew in.
Villagers watched in shock as the giant vortex circled perilously close to houses in the village of Thorpeness, Suffolk.
Fortunately no damage was caused by the twister which was spotted on Saturday night.
Tornadoes occur regularly in Britain but are usually small and pass unnoticed.
The whirlwind struck as forecasters warn of another choppy week ahead with wind and rain on the way.
However tropical breezes from the Atlantic will push thermometers back into the high 70Fs (mid 20Cs) in parts by midweek.
The Met Office warned nowhere will escape a soaking in the coming days with up to an inch of rain forecast to fall in some parts.
Heatwave
Forecaster Steven Keates said: “It is a very changeable week ahead with all parts seeing some rain at times and after a chilly start, turning warmer by midweek.”
Weathermen say despite the messy start to August things could pick up dramatically over the next fortnight.
James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, said: “The potential for hot weather will start developing during August and there is great potential for a monster heatwave. We have entered a significant pattern change from what we experienced so far throughout the early part of summer, and this will allow a more dominant Azores high to become a frequent feature well into this month.”
A man has died after getting into difficulties while swimming at Porthcressa beach in the Isles of Scilly. Despite efforts to revive him, the man, who was in his 50s and from St Mary’s, was declared dead at the scene.
ATORNADO in Suffolk? Whatever next? This has been such an extraordinary summer in so many ways that we should hardly be surprised. Happily this twister does not seem to have caused any damage or injuries. And to follow? Changeable, say the forecasters, hedging their bets.
