It’s me! Lucky £61m EuroMillions winner claims prize

- By Helene Perkins

A BRITON has claimed the massive £61million EuroMillions jackpot on Friday.

Camelot said the punter got in touch 36 hours after the winning numbers – 1, 21, 26, 40 and 50 – were drawn.

The lucky stars were 2 and 4, with all seven numbers matched to claim the £61,102,442.90.

A National Lottery spokesman said: “What an amazing win for the UK – the fourth EuroMillions jackpot to be won here this year.

“We’re delighted that the ticketholder has come forward to claim their prize and their ranking of 10th place in the National Lottery rich list.”

The spokesman added that five players also won a guaranteed £1million and a luxury trip to Australia’s Gold Coast in the UK Millionaire Maker draw.

The latest cheque means that the winner is instantly more wealthy than Wimbledon champion Andy Murray, actor Sir Michael Caine and One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.

Two EuroMillions jackpots were won by Britons in February, with £24.7million and £24.6million being claimed.

This was followed by a £51.8million success in April.

But the winners all opted to remain anonymous.

Britain’s biggest EuroMillions winners were Colin and Chris Weir, of Ayrshire, who scooped £161,653,000 in July 2011. They splashed out on a mansion, bought cars for friends and pledged financial support to the Scottish independence campaign.

Adrian and Gillian Bayford, from Haverhill, Suffolk, won £148,656,000 and planned to use their money to buy expensive cars and luxury holidays.

But record seller Mr Bayford and his nurse wife later split up.
