Vardy: Gunners ‘no’ was easy

-

JAMIE VARDY says rejecting Arsenal was an easy decision because he has “unfinished business” at Leicester.

The 29-year-old, who scored 24 league goals to help the Foxes win the title last season, signed a new deal having spurned the advances of Arsenal after the north London club had triggered a release clause in his contract.

“It’s not been put out there that I have always said the boys, the closeknit brotherhood, is unbelievable and for me, there’s a lot of unfinished business here,” he said.

“The club is only going one way and that is forward, that’s why I want to be a part of it. It wasn’t that big [the decision] when I think about it. It was quite easy and this is where I want to be.”

Claudio Ranieri’s men need to improve before they start their title defence after losing 4-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the International Champions Cup in Los Angeles on Saturday.

PSG took the lead in the 26th minute from the penalty spot, Edinson Cavani sending Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way after Daniel Amartey had brought down Jonathan Ikone.

Leicester came close to an equaliser soon after, Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick bringing a good save out of keeper Alphonse Areola, before Amartey headed narrowly wide from the resulting corner.

Ikone made it 2-0 before half-time and Ahmed Musa wasted a great chance to get the Foxes back in the game just after the restart. Lucas Moura headed the third after 64 minutes and Odsonne Edouard added a late fourth.

The Foxes, who are at Hull in their league opener, are next in action on Wednesday against Barcelona in Stockholm.
